About our Organization
Lovejoy Community
Services INC
Lovejoy Community Services, Inc. was founded in 1994 and became registered with the Secretary of State as a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. The \initial purpose of the organization was to initially train children and youth. Summer programs for youth organized with emphasis on tutoring and later on abstinence. Lovejoy Community Services, Inc. began to focus on serving more of the community by establishing a food and clothing pantry. Families are given a weeks worth of groceries on the 3rd Wednesday each month. Later, a soup kitchen was formed out of the need to feed hot meals to needy people in the neighborhood, on a regular basis.
In 2004, we began Summer Explosion based on community research data from random surveys. Kids Count data for Floyd County (Rome, GA), and Floyd County DFACS data. It was determined the haves and have not’s continues to increase. Families struggle to provide basic care, food, and shelter, but youth neglect is and ongoing issue in our community. The objective is to provide education/training support for youth and adults in the community. Also, literacy training for grandparents who are raising grandchildren.
We have five different programs which come under Lovejoy Community Services, Inc. The programs are: Rev. J. L. Vaughn Scholarship Program, Esther Vaughn Fine and Performing Arts Scholarship Program, Summer Explosion, Lovejoy Food Pantry and Lovejoy Clothing Bank. Lovejoy Community Services, Inc. has received strong support from the Rome Community since its inception. Community Partners, in-kind donations, and grant support have all contributed to the success of our non-profit organization. We seek to expand our knowledge and expertise in order to promote collaboration programs.
